Postdoctoral research fellow
University of Pennsylvania, Weitzman School of Design, Department of Architecture.
Xiang (Jason) Zhang is a postdoctoral researcher at the Thermal Architecture Lab, University of Pennsylvania (Upenn), actively engaging in the U.S. Department of Energy ARPA-E HESTIA program. He obtained his Ph.D. from KU Leuven, Belgium, where he was a fully funded doctoral researcher for the International Energy Agency (IEA) EBC Annex-71 project. Prior to KU Leuven, he conducted research at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech), etc.
His recent research focuses on three main domains: 1) Data-driven building energy performance characterization and predictive control; 2) Building energy and BIPV (building-integrated photovoltaics) simulation; and 3) Sustainable & green building rating systems. Dr. Zhang's recent research findings have been published in highly regarded international journals, such as Applied Energy, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Building and Environment, among others. Meanwhile, his research was honored with the prestigious Best Paper Award at the 5th International Conference on Building Energy and Environment COBEE 2022, held in Montreal, Canada.
