Mu Jiang

Research Assistant

Jiang's research focuses on sustainable design, particularly in urban systems. Through design thinking and interdisciplinary research, she explores innovative solutions for sustainable lifestyles. Since her undergraduate years, she has been actively involved in local communities, conducting research and practical work on neighborhood regeneration, community building, sustainable design, and social innovation.

Before joining the University of Pennsylvania, Jiang obtained a B.E. in Industrial Design with honors and an M.A. in Design from Tongji University. While at Tongji, she was a member of the SustainX Complex Sociotechnical Systems Design Research Center. Her work addressed household food waste management in Shanghai, proposing an approach that integrates decentralized and centralized systems to enhance sustainability. The study explored strategies for utilizing food waste in urban agriculture, aiming to design a commercially viable, replicable community-based recycling system.
